The tree called "Bakhaw"

Have you ever planted mangroves in your life? It can be an exciting experience.

The best way to do it is just to immerse yourself into the muddy waters and listen to the instructions. At best, the seedlings (propagules) may be planted first in nurseries just like the one in the photos. Often, you will just be handed out with a twig-like branch of a tree from bakhaw and you will be tasked to plant it as it is on the water. You just have to be mindful that you planted the right portion of the twig.

After the planting, you whisper a tiny encouragement to the propagule that it may brave the harsh waves and tides of the sea enough to take root and grow.

I haven't visited the first mangrove area that I planted in. It was just one of those mangrove sites. However, with the mangrove area in Punta Cruz, Maribojoc where I last planted, I will definitely go back there. First, we have the mangrove forest that we adopt. Second, the Punta Cruz view is simply breathtaking. Out there, I pair off environmental concerns to culture and history.

I hope that the bakhaws that we plant will grow... just like us...

You did a good job guys! Hope that this activity is not the first and last activity that you will conduct. Hope that there are more students who are environment-concerned citizens that will value and protect the environment. Congrats!
